The number of illegal migrants who crossed the northern border in the first seven month of fiscal 2023 was more than twice as high as it was for the entire fiscal year of 2022.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) latest data, Border Patrol agents encountered 4,827 migrants between October 2022 and the end of April on the U.S. – Canadian border. This is the longest shared boundary in the world. Border Patrol agents stationed at the northern border in fiscal year 2023 encountered 2,238 illegal immigrants.

Mexico accounted for 2,458 of the illegal migrants that Border Patrol encountered between October and April. Mexicans can fly to Canada with no visas. They only need electronic travel authorizations, which are available for seven Canadian dollars.

The security of the northern border has never been better. Sean Walsh, National Border Patrol Council president for the Swanton Sector in Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire (previously ), told The Daily Caller News Foundation that the cartels have exploited and taken advantage of the border, and the policies of this administration or lack thereof to address security.

The President Joe Biden of the United States and Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada have brokenred an agreement to send migrants who illegally cross to their first country to file asylum claims.

Several residents of northern border towns have expressed their concern to the DCNF about the surge.

“Everyone in this area feels on edge,” said Dan Cowan, a northern border resident who showed DCNF in March his property near the New York-Canadian Border. “We do not have the capacity to hold Border Patrol or U.S. Customs. What will they do with them when they arrive? They are not deporting these people.”

Border Patrol releases migrants into local streets. One group was a group consisting of Romanians, Haitians and other nationalities that the DCNF interviewed back in March when they were trying desperately to get bus tickets in order to continue south.
