Two actors who were nominated for awards this year weren’t present on Tuesday. Brendan Fraser was not present at the award ceremony. He was nominated for Best Actor in Drama for ” The Whale”. What is the rationale? Fraser alleged in 2018 that Phillip Berk, a South African former HFPA President and former president of the HFPA, had sexually assaulted him. Berk was banned from the HFPA in 2021 after he called Black Lives Matter a “racist hate motion.”

Then, there is Tom Cruise whose film ” Top Gun Maverick was nominated as Finest Movement Image- Drama. Cruise was probably up for Finest Actor and will be there for the Academy. However, he returned three Golden Globes in protest because of the controversy. Voting members decided to ignore him and go down the petty path.
